Conceptual manifesto
What is
Arte-Ecologia
“Art-Ecology begins with a wound. Not only the rupture of ecosystems, but the human way of inhabiting the world: the degradation of soil, of relationships, of listening, of presence. The exhaustion of resources, and of the senses too.”
It treats that condition as a crossing. It comes from the awareness that every life carries its own finitude, and that this is what calls us to live more intensely: death does not diminish life, it makes it urgent. So what is proposed here is a way of living rather than a reflection on living: presence without anaesthetic, holding your gaze in the face of fear and still pulsing.
Art, because the work is one of creation and of form. Ecology, because the method comes from forest restoration, from twenty-five years of planting, measuring and waiting. And there is a third layer: eco also points to ego, to the care of the individual, which is the condition of any collective care.
The three fields
01 · Pulsional field
The work with oneself.
Introspection, affect, the passion for what one does. The term comes from psychoanalysis, from the life drive, and names what has to be cultivated in a person before any work has anywhere to come from.
02 · The field of nucleation
The work with others.
The name comes from the nucleation island, a forest restoration technique in which you plant one small dense core that draws in wildlife, seeds and shade until the forest remakes itself. Applied to people, the principle is the same.
03 · The field of light
The work for what comes after.
Where thought catches, and new ways of understanding and acting begin to emerge. It is also the work for afterwards: awareness of what we leave to the generations that follow.
“Every project the Institute takes on answers the three questions the fields ask: what does this cultivate in the person making it, what does it create between people, and what does it leave behind.
It is still possible to germinate amid ruin. To make shelter amid exhaustion. To light thought amid dispersal. To restore bonds amid fragmentation.”
